Some guarded approval for the Ford government’s attempts to change Ontario Works.
The government announced the changes in an effort to help get more social assistance recipients into the workforce.
Bonnie Krysowaty, of the Lakehead Social Planning Council, likes the decision to increase the amount of money disability support clients can earn before payments are clawed back.
She believes “that’s an important piece to help lift people out of poverty,” but doesn’t believe overall, the changes will accomplish that for a great many people.
The social planning official hopes the changes also come with some “really intensive supports” clients require if they want to go back to school or to obtain housing.
