The president of the Ontario Medical Association is in the region, she recently visited doctors in Kenora.
Dr. Nadia Alam is meeting with local physicians and the Kenora All-Nations Partners.
She says she’ll be providing an update on the current state of negotiations with the provincial government, which are now before an arbitrator.
“Sort of on auto-pilot at this point. And a lot of the decisions, actually all of the decisions are going to be made by the arbitrator going forward. And those decisions are going to be binding on the government and the doctors. So nobody can walk away from that.”
Dr. Alam says they expect the first ruling from the arbitrator in early 2019, with a second one coming in the fall, which will provide a more detailed agreement.
The OMA has been without an agreement for over five years.
