City Council is running out of time to decide whether they want to opt out of a physical cannabis retail store.
Councillor Brian McKinnon tells us he is in favour of a bricks and mortar store, but adds it has to be done right.
“Where I’m coming from is, yes, we have to have a safe, secure spot to sell it from. It’s got to be along the lines of what the LCBO does, with check and balances. I don’t want it to be a free-for-all.”
He wants to make sure its located away from children.
“Trying to think of where it should be located. It shouldn’t be around schools, sort of like the LCBO, and beer store, and all those organizations.”
McKinnon tells us they are still looking for some more direction from the provincial government.
“We want to see what some of the parameters are. We haven’t got anything yet, as that’s pretty important to know. When we do, we think we get some input, we’ll make some decisions that are good for the people.”
The new council will be sworn in December 3rd, and have until January 22nd to decide on the issue.
