Camarilla, California’s Johnny Ruiz is the champion of this year’s Staal Foundation Open.
Ruiz finished at Whitewater Golf Club with 13 under par.
After a narrow loss at last month’s GolfBC Championship in Kelowna, he says it’s a good feeling to have a win under his belt.
“I was just thinking one more, one more. I kept telling myself it was my day, and every time I told myself that, I made another putt,” Ruiz says.
He’s hoping for a win at the Mackenzie Investments Open near Montreal next week, “And hopefully play in the RBC [Canadian Open in Oakville.] That was the goal for the first six weeks.”
This is Ruiz’s first Staal Foundation Open.
Organizers say the tournament will be back for a fifth year. (Staff Photo)
