Rural homeowners with septic tanks on their property are getting a big break from the government.
The province’s Municipal Affairs Minister says there were plans to add some new rules for owners under proposed changes to phase one of the Building Code, but those changes have now been scrapped.
Bill Mauro says the province is going to eliminate plans to require regular inspections, pumping out of septic tanks, and the keeping of maintenance records.
He says it was one of the items he inherited when he took over the ministry and it was a priority for him to eliminate, but first he decided to allow for input from the public.
