Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry is in Thunder Bay.
Forty-eight PPCLI soldiers ran from the corner of Algonquin Avenue and Red River Road to the Afghan Memorial in Waverly Park, as part of the Memorial Baton Relay, this morning.
Major Bob Barker says the PPCLI is celebrating its centennial this year, and the relay is a way to share their history with Canada.
“We’re journeying from Edmonton to Ottawa, and hitting 23 different cities and towns along the way,” he says. “So it gives us a much broader region, a lot more people that we can meet with and share a part of our regimental history.”
The Memorial Baton contains the names of over 1,000 fallen members, and is being carried to Ottawa.
“It’s part of one of the things we want to do as we celebrate 100 years,” says Barker, “and this is just a great way for us to do that.” (Photo: Caryn Ceolin)
