A jury is making nine recommendations in the inquest into the death of 38 year old Pascal Goulet.
In July 2014, Pascal Goulet passed away after a rock hit him in the head while he was working underground at the Lac Des Iles Mine.
The cause of his death was blunt force trauma and it was found be accidental.
The recommendations include creating a new safety guideline for mining companies and reforming mining industry regulations to include safety best practices.
North American Palladium the owner of the mine is being told to have their medical staff trained in critical stress management as well as make changes to some of the areas in the mine.
His widow Melanie Goulet tells us she hopes no other family has to go through this.
“I hope to God that one of these recommendations can save somebody else’s life one day. So that no other family, no other children, like my two beautiful daughters have to live through, what we’ve been living through over the last four years.”
She adds it has provided her family some closure.
“We got some missing answers. Obviously we still have one that isn’t answered, where the rock came from, we don’t have an answer for. We’ll never have an answer for, but that’s something we’ll have to live with.”
Local United Steelworkers Union President Jason Card believes the mine is much safer today than it was four years ago when this tragic fatal accident occurred.
He is hopeful the recommendations will help save workers lives.
