An ice rescue on Lake Superior brought one man safely back to shore.
Firefighters say it happened around 3:45 yesterday afternoon, when they were called to the Marina boat launch.
Platoon Chief John Kaplanis explains the man had been spotted on the ice inside the breakwall. Firefighters went out using their air boat to retrieve the man, and noticed that he was wet from the waist down.
“So it appeared he had fallen through the slushier portions of ice that are out there,” Kaplanis says, adding the ice in the harbour has been deemed unsafe because of recent ship traffic that caused the ice to break up and re-freeze.
Fire officials are reminding you that the Port Authority also forbids travelling out to the ice within the harbour breakwall area without its permission.
