Thunder Bay’s waterfront is getting a new addition.
Volunteers and students from Hammarskjold High School came together over the last few years to construct and unveil a replica lighthouse that is one fifth the size of the building located on the breakwater.
“The attempt here is to connect the community to the lighthouse and to the waterfront,” explained Paul Morralee, the Managing Director of Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior. “The lighthouse is all weather-proof with a steel roof and nicely painted so it does what a regular lighthouse does, which is stand up to the elements.”
The lighthouse will remain on display for the summer, but organizers are still deciding what to do with it in the winter months.
