Good news for drivers of electric vehicles in or travelling through northern Ontario.
The Ivy Charging Network has announced it’s expanding its fast-charger network with seven more locations across the north.
They will be in Dryden, Fort Frances, Atikokan, Hearst, Terrace Bay, Geraldton and Timmins.
Thunder Bay’s location is at the Holiday Inn Express on Carrick Street.
Ivy Charging Network Co-President Theresa Dekker explains it’s a joint venture with Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation.
“It’s really important to both OPG and Hydro One. Together our companies both have a long history in the province and have been working to support our local communities,” she says.
Dekker adds they are committed to powering Ontario with clean, reliable energy while innovating for the future.
She notes the northern Ontario charging stations are part of a province-wide expansion.
“We’re going to have about 25 locations open by the end of this month, and then by the end of next year we’re going to have another 70 locations,” Dekker says. “One of the things we’ve been very thoughtful about is having them, on average, to be about 100 kilometres apart. That way people feel like they can get anywhere in the province whether its going north, south, east or west.”
The Dryden location will at Canadian Tire on Highway 17 and should be in place shortly.
