Another scam to look out for.
This past Tuesday, city police got word that two fraudsters visited a local homeowner on September 24th. The scammers posed as a Toronto-based firm and asked for $6,000 as an up-front payment for the firm’s services.
City police have also gotten reports of other incidents where residents were contacted and asked for money for consulting services.
Police warn you to always be cautious of unsolicited phone calls, emails, or home visits claiming to be from companies, banks, or government institutions.
If you believe the claim may be legitimate, police say to find the contact information of the company or institution they purport to be associated with independently. Then contact the organization to follow-up on the claims.
