It may be the end of the line for the Thunder Bay Police Service Board’s administrator.
After almost two years with the board, Tom Lockwood gave his farewell speech today at the board’s monthly meeting, saying he’s leaving Thunder Bay in good hands.
“We have a strong, educated board with a plate of work, we have a strong police association dedicated to protecting its membership, we have an excellent Chief and Deputy Chief committed to repairing relationships with the Indigenous community,” Lockwood said.
The Toronto area lawyer was brought in as administrator following reports into systemic racism within the police force.
The board was expected to vote behind closed doors today on whether or not to extend Lockwood’s appointment. A media release sent out on Wednesday thanked Lockwood for his time and officially announced his time wouldn’t be extended past July 1st.
Chair Georjann Morriseau said the board will continue to work collaboratively and in support of each other to ensure a sustainable change.
