City Council has accepted a report that recommends closing several facilities, but isn’t taking any action right now.
Councillor Mark Bentz says they need to spend some time going over the suggestions from the final phase of the Program and Service Review.
“[City administration] will give it some thought, the community will think about it, Council will think about it, and then I think we have to put our heads together, what is the best way to move forward with all this new information?” Bentz says.
Council will meet in September to decide whether to close facilities like the Conservatory as recommended by Grant Thornton. The 80-page report will be posted publicly on the city’s website.
City Manager Norm Gale says his staff will comb through the report.
“There’s a lot of good ideas and recommendations in this report. We have not digested them, we have not analysed them, we need time to do that and that’s what we’re going to spend the next couple of months doing,” Gale explains.
Some Councillors suggested they could hold virtual ward meetings to hear your feedback on the report.
