Firefighters’ air boat was deployed for the second day in a row Saturday after a man was spotted sitting on the ice 100 yards out from shore at Prince Arthur’s Landing.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue were called out just before 11:30 on Saturday morning.
Platoon Chief Edward Hill says the man was uncooperative and walked out further onto the ice when they asked him to come closer to shore. Hill says he was carrying what they believe was a weapon. He was brought back to shore off the end of Pier 2, and taken into police custody.
It comes after another man was rescued from the ice inside the breakwall Friday afternoon. That prompted firefighters to remind residents that the ice is not safe to walk on, and it is also forbidden without the permission of the Port Authority or Harbourmaster.
