Do you wear socks to bed? Or are you the type to take them off before hitting the sheets?
Well, whatever the case may be, there are several reasons why wearing them while you snooze is actually super beneficial!
According to sleep.org, warming your feet up by putting on socks cause vasodilation, which is the dilation of blood vessels, which may signal your brain that it’s time for sleep!
Sleeping with socks on apparently can also help you fall asleep faster! In a recent study, it was found that those who wore socks to bed fell asleep 15 minutes faster than those who didn’t.
It’s also been said that wearing socks to bed can help to enhance circulation and help your body regulate it’s temperature which can help with hot flashes and night sweats.
Plus, having cold feet while you sleep can drain energy from your body, which sort of defeats the purpose of sleeping in the first place! Just remember not to wear socks that are too tight and avoid wearing compression socks to bed unless you’re instructed to by your doctor.
And if you really can’t fall asleep with socks on, here are some alternatives:
- a warm foot bath before bedtime
- wearing a warm pair of slipper before getting into bed
- sleeping with a hot water bottle near the feet
- sleeping with a blanket over the foot of the bed
- taking a bath 1 or 2 hours before bedtime
