Police officers in Ontario are about to get more freedom to take impaired drivers off the road.
Part 2 of Bill C-46 comes into effect today which allows officers to administer a breath sample to any driver.
Previously, police have had to come to a reasonable suspicion to believe a driver had alcohol in their system prior to issuing a road side demand, but not under the new law.
It is mandatory for drivers to provide a breath sample and refusal to do so can result in charges.
The new legislation also features stiffer minimum fines and higher maximum penalties.
