The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre finds itself in an unusual position, it’s short about 50 nurses.
Hospital official Dawna Perry explains they are working on a plan to get them back up to full staff.
She says for the first time ever, they will be recruiting nurses from southern Ontario.
The nursing official tells us last year the hospital wasn’t able to recruit enough nurses from the university or the college.
Hospital officials surmise it’s because there are plenty of nursing jobs elsewhere in the province to choose from allowing graduates to take their pick of hospitals.
The regional hospital has about 1,300 nurses on staff.
