It is that time of year to bust out the VHS machine and watch some of your favourite holiday movies, or if you’re a fancy pants the DVD player. Last night I wanted to share my favourite Christmas film with my 5 year old but he didn’t like it… I now have only one son. We watched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and as I was laughing at Clark W. Griswald falling and bonking his head every 5 minutes my son was crying and felt bad for him. The worst was when Clark locked himself in the attic when the rest of the family went shopping. My little guy was so worried for him that he didn’t even laugh when he fell through the ceiling. None the less it’s still my Favourite and I guess I’ll have to watch it when he goes to bed. It just shows me that everyone’s tastes are different, so I have compiled a list of my top 5 beloved holiday flicks.
NUMBER 5:
The Santa Clause. This one is probably not on many people’s top 5 but I like it for some reason. I think it’s because Tim Allen make’s me laugh, he doesn’t even need to say something witty it’s just his facial expressions. It’s why this scene from the movie makes me laugh the most.
NUMBER 4:
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. I enjoy the original Dr. Seuss book and the 1966 animated movie but the Jim Carrey version cracks me up. I think it’s the same reason why I like The Santa Clause, the story is okay but the acting is what makes it. 6:30… Dinner with me, I can’t cancel that again
NUMBER 3:
Scrooged. This was such a unique way to tell an old story. It’s a little crude and not for everyone but I love it and this scene make me spit my eggnog out my nose.
NUMBER 2:
Elf. I just love how silly it is and I can’t imagine anyone but Will Ferrell in the title role. “Hello, this is Buddy. What’s your favourite colour?” My son also loves this one so much that we have seen it 128 times in my house. This scene gets my little guy rolling on the floor.
NUMBER 1:
National Lampoon Christmas Vacation. No surprise here as I told you it was my favourite at the start of this blog. Just like my son with the movie Elf I have seen this flick over hundred times. Every time I watch it I find something new that makes me laugh.
Does anyone have a top 5 that’s exactly the same as mine? If you do we are officially best friends now. What is your top 5 favourite holiday films? And no Die Hard does not count.
