More than 500 Domtar employees in Dryden and Ear Falls have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a new four-year contract.
Unifor Local National representative Stephen Boon says the agreements contain some of the largest monetary increases in the forestry sector in almost two decades.
“The industry has really rebounded… I mean, we’ve obviously seen over the last 10 years, we went from the lows in 2008 and 2009, so you can see an overall stabilization in the industry. The sawmills are all doing well, making money.”
The contract includes a 9% pay hike over the course of the deal as well as increases in vacation entitlement and improved seniority.
The last collective agreements all expired at the end of August.
