NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says Premier Ford isn’t doing enough to save jobs in Oshawa.
Following the announcement from GM that they are closing their plant in Oshawa, along with four other plants in North America, Doug Ford says there is nothing his government can do.
In Question Period, Ford says he spoke to the President of GM who told him “the ship has left the dock,” and “there’s nothing [the government] can do.”
Horwath says the Premier should be working harder than making a phone call.
She says it’s the Premier’s job to “work to save jobs and investment in Ontario, not to sit by and wave bye-bye to jobs as they leave.”
On Twitter, Horwath acknowledged the auto sector is shifting to electric and autonomous vehicles. She added, rather than let thousands of good jobs up and leave, “let’s be on the leading edge of evolution.”
