Thunder Bay’s Health Unit is backing out of administering the Fair Start Program that oversaw developmental screening for young children.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille tells us it involved many community groups and they’ve spoken with their partners about their decision.
“How that might go forward will depend on what they want to do. We do a lot in that area, however a program like that is not in our mandate. We do through our other programs like Healthy Babies, Healthy Children a more targeted screening program.”
The Health Unit is going to use the money from the Fair Start Program to offer a visual health program.
The visual health screening program will be for children in SK. Referrals will be made for children who require follow up.
