The president and CEO of Kenora Hydro is calling the merger with Thunder Bay Hydro bittersweet.
Dave Sinclair says the merger was finally approved late Thursday by the Ontario Energy Board.
He has some mixed feelings now that the deal is done.
“It’s the end of an era for Kenora Hydro, but at the same time, I think there’s better opportunity, not just for the utility but for customers and the staff.”
He adds there’s still lots of work to do before the companies join forces on January 1st.
Sinclair explains there’s a transitional team in place, whose work includes ironing out any bill and pay roll issues.
Sinclair says he will be staying on initially just to help with the transition to the new company, but expects to retire later in the year.
He adds they will be announcing the name of the new electrical utility at a later date.
