Interested in a career in long haul or forestry truck driving?
Confederation College wants to get you down that path with the introduction of a new AZ Truck Driver program.
Manager of Training Initiative and Workforce Development Jason Ozbolt says the local demand for skilled workers in that field is growing each and every day.
“When the MTO came forward and asked if this is something we’d be willing to be help on, we said yes, we’d love to get back in the game. We went through the whole process.”
The program will be launched in Thunder Bay, but Ozbolt says if there is interest in Dryden, Fort Frances and Kenora, they will branch out.
“The on-going concern with all the mills and long-haul companies is sustaining that workforce and filling the demand and drivers in those seats.”
The Mandatory Entry Level Training program will provide classroom and practical training, including real-world scenarios, defensive driving and even testing.
“Work with our community partners, being the long-haul companies, the forestry truck driver contractors, to tap into some of the ever growing demand for these drivers that are needed to haul the wood and these loads across the country.”
