Thunder Bay’s mayor-elect is sticking to his campaign call and appealing for a delay in hiring a new police chief.
Bill Mauro believes with the Police Services Board under investigation by the Ontario Civilian Police Commission the decision should be held off.
Mauro tells us he’s heard on the street the board remains committed to hiring the new chief before the Ontario Civilian Police Commission completes its investigation of the board.
He says “quite frankly I don’t understand it.”
The mayor-elect is encouraging people to call their council representatives to find out why it’s necessary to move quickly to hire a full time chief.
Meantime, Mauro will be taking his place on the Thunder Bay Police Services Board.
Outgoing mayor Keith Hobbs chose not to take the position which is reserved for the mayor, but Mauro tells us he’s ready to take part in the board’s regular meetings.
