The city is refunding or cancelling almost $57,000 in property taxes
A report to the city says around $2,300 of that was because of errors, while the rest is for a variety of reasons including the property becoming exempt or being demolished.
Council agreed to cancel, reduce, or refund the taxes at Monday’s meeting.
City officials explain that handing back or not collecting some property taxes is something that happens every year, and was accounted for in the city’s budget.
They add because it’s included in the 2018 budget, there’s no issue with a “lame duck” Council voting on the motions despite dealing with a sum of money over $50,000.
