A compromise of sorts has been reached in Oliver-Paipoonge between the township and a farmer in the community.
Mayor Lucy Kloosterhuis indicates hunting used to be allowed on his property next to Valley Central Public School with no restrictions, but now that’s changed.
She says council went to the farmer and asked that hunting not be allowed on the property during school hours and his response was, “no problem” and he promised to enforce the policy.
The issue came to a head in the spring when a parent noticed someone hunting while she brought her child to school.
The by-law has been in the books for years because the Oliver-Paipoonge mayor tells u it allows the farmer permission to allow the practice as a way of protecting his crop from birds.
