Ontario’s Transportation Minister expects to see more snowmobilers on the trails this winter.
The province has made it easier for new snowmobilers to get licensing by making on-line safety training available.
John Yakabuski says they are partnering with the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs to make that happen.
The province notes as estimated 200,000 snowmobilers currently hit the trails each winters, injecting $1.7 billion into local economies.
Tourism Minister Sylvia Jones credits the volunteer organizations who help maintain those routes.
“7,000 volunteers maintain 32,000 kilometres of snowmobile trails, connecting communities throughout Ontario,” she points out. “These trails are not only used by Ontarians, but are very popular destinations for our out-of-province visitors.”
