Municipalities should have the choice if they want publicly-run, or privately operated cannabis stores.
That’s the feeling of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.
President Warren “Smokey” Thomas says he’s disappointed the Ford government has chosen to go down the privatization route.
“That is a very, very major public policy shift with absolutely no consultation with anyone. And with the Liberals, I thought the plan was too conservative with just 40 stores–I said, come on, you need more than 40 stores.”
He says the previous Liberal government had already hired a management team and developed plans for where to locate its publicly-owned cannabis stores.
