City officials say they’ll offer a grant program to annual parades and other street events.
In a memo to city council, they explain only around $7,000 of the $15,000 set aside for the program was used last year, so they’re opening it up to events like the Rotary Christmas Parade.
The program was previously open to not-for-profit events to help pay for police officers to close off the parade route.
They say police costs for the Rotary event are expected to be over $9,000 this year, and the city could pay for up to half of that along with all the costs of informing the public about the road closures.
That item will be discussed at tonight’s council meeting.
