Local safety officials want you to put down your phone, along with anything else that can distract you behind the wheel.
The “Just Drive-Your Friends Will Understand” campaign is underway until October 5th.
It’s put on by the Community Traffic Awareness Committee, made up of partners including Thunder Bay Police, the local Health Unit, the City, and the Ministry of Transportation.
Organizers emphasize distracted driving can be fatal and is completely preventable.
They add while 9 out of every 10 Ontarians from age 16 to 24 know texting while driving is illegal, but more than half say they’ve read texts while behind the wheel, and over 4 out of every 10 have sent texts while driving.
It also reminds you that you can be charged $1,000 for distracted driving starting on January 1st of the new year. (File Photo)
