With the municipal election fast approaching, some candidates to the west of us say stealing candidate signs is no laughing matter.
Fort Frances officials say no one candidate is a target of the thieves that appear to be taking down signs in that community.
Mayoral candidate Ken Perry tells Acadia News OPP have been contacted, calling the thefts “terrible”.
“They said to make sure that everyone’s aware of that fact that it’s a criminal offence, a serious criminal offence,” Perry emphasizes. “You can go to jail for it. It might be a joke for some people, but it’s costly for a lot of us.”
Fort Frances Mayoral candidate June Caul has also seen her signs go missing.
Caul says one person found a sign in the bush.
“It’s appalling that people have to resort to doing that as they are walking down the street, and have to pull out people’s signs and destroy them.”
“Those signs cost us a lot of money to buy, to advertise our candidacy and we don’t appreciate having them pilfered or destroyed.”
Anyone with information about election signs being taken is asked to contact police.
