Thunder Bay’s Health Unit is reporting five lyme disease-positive ticks this summer.
However, three are from people who picked them up while travelling in Minnesota.
Dr. Ken Deacon tells us that’s not unusual noting they’ve seen ticks from the southern states.
“We had one case where the indivdual had gone to Texas the year previous, had come back home and stored the trailer, popped it up the following year and found two ticks. Two Lone Star ticks, and that type of tick is just not up here.”
The Health Unit Spokesperson notes it’s been a pretty slow tick season due to the harsh winter we experienced. (File Photo)
