NDP leader Andrea Horwath is unhappy with the Ford government’s decision to halt the opening of planned overdose prevention sites including here in Thunder Bay.
She says it flies in the face of all advice from experts, community members, volunteers and most importantly risks the lives of Ontarians struggling with addiction.
“Overdose prevention sites have already been reviewed, and reviewed, and reviewed. The overwhelming consensus of medical experts says that they save lives.”
Health Minister Christine Elliott recently announced the government needed to assess the merit of sites offering supervised injection and overdose prevention services.
Meanwhile, the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario released a statement saying there is robust peer-reviewed evidence that these services are saving lives. (File photo)
