Federal funding is allowing Thunder Bay’s Salvation Army to offer a language cafe for those who want to brush up on their English and French.
Captain Rachel Sheils says it’s a drop in class that’s held each Monday.
“People just come and we have volunteers that sit down and we just have casual conversations with them. We meet them at their level, whatever level their language is at. When you are in a conversation, you have to pull all your learning together so it really strengthens your learning.”
Sheils tells us they’ve had people from Europe, Asia and the Middle East come to learn one of Canada’s two official languages.
The program meets every Monday from three until four thirty at the Salvation Army Church on Victoria Avenue.
