The City of Thunder Bay continues to wait for a response from CN Rail about the James Street Bridge. Officials have been trying to get an answer from the railway ever since a court ruling stating CN is responsible for maintaining the bridge.
City Manager Norm Gale confirms they have reached out to the railway regarding the James Street Bridge and have told CN it’s of “critical importance to the City and to Fort William First Nation to have the bridge reopened to vehicular traffic”
The city also wants CN to “provide a definitive timeline as to when repairs will be done to the bridge, and when CN expects the bridge to be reopened.”
The city manager tells us they expect to receive an answer from CN by Monday.
A spokesperson for CN tells us “CN continues to review the court decision and potential next steps. We have communicated that status to the city and Fort William First Nation, also noting we expect to have an update for them soon. Regardless of the direction forward, we wish to continue to work with the city and Fort William First Nation to reach a solution to the issue of the James Street Swing Bridge.”
