Just over $4,100 is going to a charity that feeds local students on the weekends.
Thunder Bay Isthmus chapter co-ordinator Amina Abu-Bakare says the donation from local Pita Pit locations will go towards their $36,000 goal, which will let them expand their services at École Gron Morgan.
“We have over $25,000 right now for them, and this is going to add to that as well,” Abu-Bakare explains, adding that it costs $120 to feed one child for the entire school year, and the charity makes a commitment to support each child for at least three full years.
“I’m keeping my fingers crossed that by the end of June, I’ll be able to take on all 100 kids [at École Gron Morgan]. We’re currently feeding 45 of those children.”
Abu-Bakare says they feed a total of 310 kids at ten local schools right now, and all money is used for food since the organization is entirely volunteer-run.
Pita Pit franchise owner P.J. Pasqualino says he was glad to help, adding his son attends École Gron Morgan.
The restaurant’s Thunder Bay locations asked customers for donations, and Pasqualino adds that the company’s head office also contributed some money as well. (Staff Photo)
