Landlords in Ontario are concerned that they won’t be able to prevent tenants from smoking marijuana in their apartments when it becomes legal.
Thunder Bay’s Bruce Henderson of Dawson Properties, who’s company owns 1,200 suites in the city, wants the provincial government to add apartments to the list of locations marijuana cannot be smoked.
He tells us until now, it’s something landlords have dealt with on a smaller basis but when it’s legal, he believes it will become a bigger management problem.
As an example, Henderson points to the fact he already gets a lot of tenant complaints as the result of medical marijuana smoke.
While he notes that some landlords in larger centres can dedicate a room for smoking pot, his buildings are not big enough to make that accommodation.
