An in-depth study is underway to improve river safety in the city.
The City of Thunder Bay is doing it in response to a recommendation made during the inquest into the deaths of seven First Nation youth.
Several of the those students were found dead in the river prompting the jury response.
The study involves examining where indigenous young people gather and then coming up with recommendations to make those areas safer.
It also includes hiring a consultant from the City of Windsor Police Service.
He’s already lead some safety audits at three separate river locations this week.
The areas were studied at night and during the daytime.
It was done with about 50 individuals in attendance representing numerous First Nation organizations in the city along with CN Rail, CP Rail Police and Shelter House. (Photo supplied)
