Common Voice Northwest isn’t entirely pleased with a recent meeting on the Energy East pipeline.
Energy East Task Force Chair Tanice Marcella says the goal of Thursday night’s meeting was to get public input on sensitive water crossings along the pipeline route that need more protection.
Citizens United for a Sustainable Planet spokesperson Paul Berger caused a stir when he spoke up, saying the pipeline would be dangerous for all water crossings.

Berger says he was there represeting a coalition of local environmental groups, including Fossil-Free Lakehead, Ontario Nature, Environment North, and the Thunder Bay chapter of the Council of Canadians. He says Canada is dealing with a climate crisis and shouldn’t be building big pipelines.
Although the meeting was interrupted, Marcella says she would’ve gladly let them have their say if they’d communicated with organizers.
Marcella told Berger that he was presenting good information, and she says she hopes his group shares its findings with the Task Force. She adds that while the turnout was better than recent meetings in Shuniah and Nipigon, they got less feedback than expected. (photo: Colin Redston)
