The Canadian Institute for Health Information says the number of physicians in Canada is increasing at a faster rate than the population as a whole.
It identifies 82-thousand doctors practicing in 2015 which amounts to 228 for every 100,000 people. Over 30,000 are working in Ontario, which is 220 for every 100,000.
However, less than 5 per cent of the province’s doctors are working small and rural areas of the province. Of that number, just 167 are specialists.
